Cold weather is no reason to stay inside. This hands-on early childhood educator workshop — held at the Stedman Education Building at the NC Zoo in Asheboro — explores how natural playwork can turn ice into a rich, engaging learning tool for young children, even on the coldest days.

Led by Linda Kinney of the NC Zoo, participants will explore how the natural affordances of ice inspire joyful, meaningful, and creative play experiences. You will leave with practical strategies for using simple natural materials to create outdoor learning opportunities that children will love — and that support healthy development all winter long.

Natural Start Alliance is a great resource for early childhood educators exploring nature-based approaches. The NC Zoo’s education programs also offer ongoing learning opportunities for early childhood professionals.
